Welcome

The 6th Creek Catchment Group hope you find this website useful with the range of information provided on land management, field days, free courses, publications and links to other environmental organisations/groups. If you have any comments or suggestions, send them to our Project Officer.

Spring in the Catchment

  • Prepare your property for the Fire Danger Season. Ring the CFS hotline on 1300 362 361 for further information.
  • Map Broom infestations on your property while the yellow flowers are blooming. This will help with your control program over the Summer months.
  • Start woody weed control programs on English and Montpellier Broom, as they have now reached a suitable time for herbicide control through foliar spraying. Hand pulling and cut & swab methods can be employed all year round.
  • Take a Wildflower Walk and discover the local plants of your area. Many local Landcare groups hold bushwalks and field days during Spring as the local flora puts on a spectacular display!
  • Keep up the weed control around new revegetation sites. Competition for water over Summer will be fierce, so give your plants the best chance of survival by controlling aggressive perennial grasses (either by slashing or spraying), and preparing for hand watering over Summer.
  • Watsonia in bushland areas can be controlled by hand pulling, careful spot spraying or using the Tongs of Death. Using bushcare principles, start in your least weedy area first, and aim to work into the denser infestations.
